We weren’t asking for much; just to feel okay, good enough, and worthy of love just the way we are… without having to shed our skin every morning and put on another one to please them! Now we feel the scars of those old abuses that we hide, and that continue to affect our behavior, leaving us feeling alienated and self-doubt. These are wounds that never truly healed, so we suppressed their pain early on and wore a mask of strength, pretending we were fine. Until the time of freedom came, we embarked on the path to recovery, journeyed along the paths of healing, and learned that at the end of the dark tunnel of pain lies light.
