Join the Student Welfare Committee
The Student Welfare Committee is an advisory committee of the AUSA Board, established under Rule 25.8 of the AUSA Constitution. It assists the Board with oversight of student wellbeing needs, welfare initiatives and programs, welfare advocacy, and University policy affecting student welfare. The Committee advises and recommends to the Board, while the Board retains final decision-making authority.
What would my role involve?
As an External Student Member, you'd attend Committee meetings (monthly, or at minimum every two months, in person or online, typically 1–2 hours) and contribute your perspective on student welfare issues and University policy. Papers are usually circulated a few days beforehand.
You'd also engage regularly with senior AUSA and University Executives who attend Committee meetings, a genuine channel to raise student concerns directly with the people responsible for acting on them. This role suits students who can communicate confidently with senior stakeholders and represent student perspectives with credibility.
Appointments run for an initial 12-month term, renewable while you remain a student. Consistent attendance is expected, membership lapses if you miss two consecutive meetings, or three of any five, without leave granted by the Committee. Members must also maintain confidentiality and declare any conflicts of interest.
This is a genuine seat at the table for student welfare. Direct input into AUSA and University decision-making, without the broader governance load of a Board position.
