AUSA Board Statement

National Day of Action.

The AUSA Board supports the upcoming ‘National Day of Action’ organised by the National Union of Students taking place on Thursday 13 August.

This day of action marks a stand against racism in all its forms. We condemn the recent comments from Pauline Hanson demanding that Australia be a “monocultural” society and reject any political ideology including far right ideology that seeks to scapegoat or oppress cultural diversity, migrants, and First Nations people.

Our Board is made up of students from a diverse mix of nationalities, cultures, beliefs, and lived experiences. This diversity is our strength, and mirrors the vibrant, supportive, and inclusive everyday student experience we see on our campuses.

We believe that our university experience is a shining example of the success that comes from a commitment to respect, inclusion, and collaboration. University students already demonstrate the value of diverse voices and ideas, and how they help create the best possible outcomes for all.

For these reasons and many more, we encourage all students to take a stand against racism.

‘National Day of Action’ will be held at Parliament House on Thursday 13 August at 1pm.
