From the beginning of our term on 1 June this year, the AUSA Board has been working towards the delivery of elections for a Student Representative Council (SRC) in 2026. The formation of an elected SRC with its own separate Constitution was a requirement under the establishment of AUSA last year, with the deadline for elections scheduled by the previous AUSA Transitional Board alongside Adelaide University.
The current AUSA Board inherited this work in June, and while committed to the establishment of the SRC, the complexity of the work involved, and considerable consultation required with the University has proved challenging. After much consideration, the Board has now determined that there is no practical option to complete this process and elect an SRC by the end of 2026.
Democratically elected student representation is central to the student experience and voice at our university, and this is not something the Board feels comfortable compromising on because of time constraints.
We are continuing to work with the University to reach a suitable outcome, and while no date has been determined for when the SRC will be established, or an election held, we are committed to delivering an optimal student representative model for all students.
Student representation is our priority, and we will ensure this need continues to be met as we work towards an ongoing solution.
